What Is TRUFON HUNT? Next-Generation Field Truffle Detection

TRUFON HUNT is the field-detection product of the TruffleMaps system. TruffleMaps decides which GPS point to check first; TRUFON HUNT is designed to detect truffles at that field target. It connects the target on the map with evidence in the field.

What does TRUFON HUNT do?

Truffles grow underground and leave no trace on the surface. Traditional truffle hunting has relied heavily on trained dogs and walking large areas. TRUFON HUNT offers a different workflow:

1. The target comes from the map. TruffleMaps identifies priority GPS targets from satellite, soil, geology, topography and habitat data.
2. Detection happens in the field. TRUFON HUNT performs field sensing at the target point.
3. The result is recorded. A finding or a negative result is stored as evidence with its location.

That is why TRUFON HUNT is not a stand-alone gadget but part of a truffle detection system that works together with map intelligence.

Step by step in the field

• Choose a target from your licensed area's priority GPS targets in the mobile app.
• Navigate to it with offline GPS — no internet needed in the forest.
• Measure with TRUFON HUNT using quick-scan and confirm modes; the measurement accounts for ambient conditions.
• Decide and excavate carefully based on the detection result.
• Record the finding or negative result with its location; records feed the Model → Sensor → Evidence → Feedback loop.

TruffleMaps/TRUFON field work has achieved an 85% successful excavation rate, based on targeted excavation results. It is not AI accuracy, a habitat probability or a guarantee of future results — it shows how many excavations at targeted points were successful.

Real field tests

In a real field test, Tuber aestivum was found at all three preselected GPS target locations. The test covered three working areas; targets were set by TruffleMaps before the field visit, and in that validation exercise the target locations were checked with the truffle dog Tokyo.
